RemotePeople review: Employer of Record in Africa
RemotePeople is the provider we rank first for hiring across Africa, and this review explains why. It employs on the continent through a combination of its own entities and vetted partners, with owned entities in South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Egypt and Ethiopia and a substantial office in South Africa. It is the only global EOR platform in our ranking that also recruits in-house, publishes several price points, and tops the G2 Employer of Record category. It is not the cheapest everywhere and it is not an Africa-only specialist, and we say where that matters.
Scorecard
How RemotePeople scores on our eight criteria
Same criteria and weights as every provider on this site. Each line links to the part of the review that explains it.
Strengths
- Employs in all 54 African countries through a mix of owned entities and partners, and tells you which before you sign
- Own entities in South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Egypt and Ethiopia, with a substantial office in South Africa
- Recruit, employ and incorporate from one provider; the only global EOR in our ranking with in-house recruiters
- Published pricing with three EOR packages, from $199 per employee per month
- G2 Leader in Employer of Record; 4.7 across 454 reviews; Best Support (Enterprise)
- Named account manager on every plan; SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001
Watch for
- Africa is one region of 150+ countries, not the sole focus
- Outside the five owned-entity markets, hiring runs through partners; ask for the partner’s name per country
- Security deposit, setup and offboarding terms are confirmed in the proposal rather than published
- The headline “48-hour onboarding” is a best case; its own country pages quote one to two weeks for African hires
- Trustpilot (4.2 across 164) sits below its G2 score
- Integrations trail the largest software-first platforms
Fit
Who RemotePeople suits, and who should look elsewhere
Choose it if…
- Africa is one region in a wider rollout and you want one agreement for everything
- You need to hire in South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Egypt or Ethiopia and want the employer to be the provider’s own company
- You do not have the candidate yet: its recruiters can source, shortlist and then employ the hire
- You expect to open your own entity later and want the same provider to incorporate it and transfer staff
- You want a named person who knows your account rather than a ticket queue
Look elsewhere if…
- You want an Africa-only specialist with nothing else on its plate: see EOR In Africa or Africa HR
- Deep HRIS integrations matter more to you than service: see our Deel review
- You will not sign without every fee, including the deposit, on a public price list
Coverage & entities
Where RemotePeople employs in Africa, and through whom
The entity is the employer. RemotePeople covers every African country, and it does so through a combination of its own registered entities and vetted local partners. In the five markets that carry most of the continent’s hiring demand it employs through its own companies; elsewhere it uses a partner and names that partner in the proposal. That mixed model is the right one for Africa: fifty-four rulebooks are not served well by pretending to own fifty-four entities, and the providers who claim to usually do not.

How to read this. “Confirmed by provider” means RemotePeople has stated to us which countries sit on its own entities. We ask every provider for the registration number of each employing entity and publish it when we have it; until then, ask for the certificate of incorporation in the proposal, which RemotePeople supplies.
Two things stand out against the rest of the ranking. First, the five owned-entity markets are the right five: South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya and Egypt account for the great majority of inbound EOR demand on the continent, and Ethiopia is the one large market where almost every global platform relies on a partner. Second, RemotePeople is clear about the partner model where it applies. Several larger platforms will not say which African countries sit on an owned entity at all; here the answer is given per country before you sign.
Positioning
Recruit, employ, incorporate: one provider rather than three
RemotePeople’s tagline is “Recruit, Employ, and Incorporate. One Partner, Not Three Vendors,” and in Africa it is more than a slogan. Most EOR platforms assume you already have the candidate. RemotePeople employs in-house recruiters with on-the-ground reach in Egypt, Nigeria, Kenya and South Africa, delivers a vetted shortlist within days, and then employs the hire on its own paper. Recruitment with EOR is priced at 2% of annual salary per month on top of the EOR fee, with a six-month replacement guarantee; standalone recruitment is 20% of annual salary, paid on the first day.
It is the only global EOR platform in our ranking that runs recruitment in-house rather than referring you to a staffing partner, and for African hiring that matters: the hard part is usually finding the person, not paying them. The third leg, incorporation, covers entity formation in 150+ countries, a local director and registered address where needed, annual filings and a managed EOR-to-entity transfer when you are ready to employ directly. A good EOR relationship ends with an entity, and this is one of the few providers built to take you there.

Pricing
What RemotePeople charges
RemotePeople publishes its EOR pricing in three packages, which is more than most of the ranking manages. The $199 headline applies to the Select tier in qualifying countries and salary bands; most African hires on the Global tier start from $499. Both include local contracts, payroll and tax administration, statutory benefits, a dedicated account manager and ongoing employment support. Fees are invoiced in USD, and as with every provider we have reviewed the employee is paid in local currency, so the buyer carries FX exposure on the fee.
Worked example · one hire in South Africa
Gross salary R600,000 a year on the Global tier. Illustrative, not a quote.
| Gross salary | R600,000 |
| Employer UIF, SDL and COIDA (approx.) | R12,600 |
| EOR fee, $499 × 12 at R17.5/$ | ≈ R104,800 |
| Annual cost (approx.) | ≈ R717,000 |
Any security deposit is held separately and returned at the end of the engagement.
Local track record
How long, and how deep, in Africa
RemotePeople was founded in New York in 2018, has been profitable since 2020 and now serves more than 3,000 companies across 150+ countries, with headquarters in New York and an APAC headquarters in Singapore. Its African presence is built around the five owned-entity markets rather than a single hub. South Africa carries a substantial office presence; Nigeria, Kenya and Egypt have in-country recruiters as well as employing entities; and Ethiopia, which most global platforms serve only through a partner, sits on its own entity.
That is a different shape from the Johannesburg-centred regional groups in our ranking and from the global platforms with no African office at all. It is neither an Africa specialist nor a platform that treats the continent as a line on a map; it is a global provider that has chosen to put its own companies, and its own people, in the markets that matter.

Capterra

Trustpilot
4.2 / 5across 164 reviews; 73% five-star, 13% one-star
RemotePeople’s G2 record is the strongest of any provider in our Africa ranking relative to its size. In G2’s Summer 2026 reports it was named Leader in Employer of Record, Global Employment Platforms and Contractor Management, Momentum Leader in Global Payroll and PEO, and took Best Support (Enterprise), Best Relationship and Users Most Likely to Recommend, among more than 80 badges. It also appears in G2’s Top 100 Fastest-Growing Software of 2026, was named Best Customer Support 2026 by Software Advice, and placed first in People Managing People’s 10 Best EOR Services for 2026.
Trustpilot is lower, and we do not hide it: 4.2 across 164 reviews, with a cluster of one-star reviews in late 2026 citing slow replies on payment queries. Most Trustpilot reviewers are employees rather than client companies, and the dominant note is still positive: “Very easy to use. Great customer support and seamless communication.” and “the onboarding went smoothly from start to finish.”
Reddit sentiment
Mentions on Reddit are fewer than for the biggest platforms, but what there is runs positive, and the recurring theme is price against the $599 incumbents. A sample:

Bottom line
Should you shortlist RemotePeople?
Yes, and for most African hiring plans it should be the first name on the list. The combination of owned entities in the five markets that matter, named partners everywhere else, in-house recruitment and published pricing is not matched by any other provider we rank. The single best reason to choose it is that it will find the person, employ them on its own paper and later hand you an entity; the single best reason to hesitate is if your plan is Africa-only and you would rather have a small specialist with nothing else to do. In the proposal, ask for the employing entity’s certificate of incorporation, the partner’s name in any partner country, and the deposit and offboarding terms in writing.
RemotePeople in Africa: questions buyers ask
Does RemotePeople own its entities in Africa?
In South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Egypt and Ethiopia it employs through its own registered companies. In the other 49 African countries it employs through a vetted local partner, which it names in the proposal. Ask for the certificate of incorporation or the partner’s details before you sign.
How much does RemotePeople cost for an African hire?
EOR Global starts from $499 per employee per month; EOR Select from $199 in qualifying countries and salary bands. Both include contracts, payroll, statutory benefits and a dedicated account manager. Deposit, setup and offboarding terms are confirmed in the proposal.
Can RemotePeople recruit the candidate as well as employ them?
Yes. Its in-house recruiters cover Egypt, Nigeria, Kenya and South Africa among other markets, deliver a shortlist within days, and the placement carries a six-month replacement guarantee. Recruitment with EOR is priced at 2% of annual salary per month on top of the EOR fee.
How quickly can someone start?
RemotePeople’s country pages quote one to two weeks for a citizen in South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Egypt or Ethiopia once documents are in. Work-permit cases take longer and depend on the country. Treat the “48-hour” headline as the best case.
Can we move staff to our own entity later?
Yes. RemotePeople offers incorporation in 150+ countries and a managed EOR-to-entity transfer, so the same provider can set up your company and move your employees onto it with accrued rights preserved.
How we reviewed RemotePeople
Scored on the same eight criteria as every provider on this site, weighted equally. Facts were checked against the provider’s published pages and independent review platforms, and marked “confirmed by provider” where they rest on the provider’s statement to us. RemotePeople did not pay to be reviewed and did not see this review before publication. Scores are opinions based on public information and direct experience, not measurements.
